Exchange2003 Restore Error
Author Message
Post Exchange2003 Restore Error
The original Exchange server and storage group are gone. All that's left is
the TSM backups. Defined the storage group and database EXACTLY on another
Exchange server. Defined the RSG and added the storage group/database to the
RSG with the can be overwritten by a restore checked. The restore runs and
did over 500GB and then the failure. In the TDPEXC.LOG:

ACN5798E MS Exchange API HRESERESTORECOMPLETE() failed with HRESULT:
0xc7fe1f42 -Database not found.

But then I have this event log entry:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: ESE BACKUP
Event Category: Restore
Event ID: 950
Date: 3/2/2010
Time: 5:57:15 PM
User: N/A
Computer: STVEXCHANGE09
Description:
tdpexc (1860) Unexpected file system error 2 encountered while opening the
restore environment file.

This is talking about a RESTORE.ENV file the was or should have been
created? Trying to run the ESEUTIL /cc to apply the restored logs is what
I'm assuming. I am definitely NOT an exchange person and could use some
help. I don't even have access to this server. I'm running this through a
proxy person at the client site.

Is this a TDP/TSM issue or an Exchange issue? If anyone can give some
insight.

TIA,
Bill Boyer

This is all TSM 5.5 from one end to the other.

Hi Bill,

If you have the .EDB, .STM, and .LOG files, your Exchange admin
should be able to get your Recovery Storage Group up and running.

GOOGLE also turns up a few hits on 0xc7fe1f42 during Exchange restores,
including a MS KB article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/296841).
If you cannot get things working, I recommend placing a call
with IBM support.

Thanks,

Del

Hi Bill,

The restore environment file is created by the Exchange Server
at restore time. If you do the restore again, make sure you delete
that file before starting the restore since it may be interfering
with the restore.

Thanks,

Del
