You may try redirecting the output to a file -

dsmc i /usr > adsm.out

I was wondering if anybody has a solution for this problem. We need to show
clients what files are backed up from an activity log in a non scheduled event.
We forced an incremental on a Unix box running Solaris 2.6 using the DSMC "I"
command. We can see in the foreground the files that are being copied (sent)
to ADSM. But we can't find a record of this process except in the activity log.
The activity log only shows stats. and no specific file movement. The nohup.out
file and the dsmcsched file does not show that particular activity. Does a
script need to be created to redirect the screen dump? And does anybody have
an example for a newbi Unix admin.

Subject:Re: New Comm Method Value

The OpenEdition sockets API is used by the Tivoli Storage Manager for MVS 3.7
when the server is running under OS/390 R5 or greater. Therefore, "BPX-Tcp/Ip"
is displayed when the server is using the OpenEdition sockets API (callable
service). "BPX" are the first three characters of the names of the API
functions that are being used by the server.

Hi *SMers,

I know the question I post now is not realy *SM related, but I saw that
there are also some SAP Admins watching this list. So what I want do know,
did anyone ever had to change the SAP SID after a cross-system db restore
i.e. building an additional SAP system on a seperate machine with a
*different* SID. I know ( and did often ) a complete copy of an SAP system
via ADSM ( adint2 interface ) and I also changed the hostname successfully,
but I dont know the steps necessary to change this unique SID ( also found
no OSS hint on that issue)?

SAP : 45B
DB : SAP DB ( former ADABAS/D) 6.2.9.14
OS : AIX 4.3.2 ML 01
ADSM : 3.1.2.20

Any ideas would help ...... ( maybe contact me off-list at :

Thanks and sorry again ...

We run ADSM on AS/400s and we were given an upgrade cost of about $7,500. There
is currently a rebate promotion which brought the final upgrade cost to about
$2,000 per server.

Hope this helps.

Can anyone share their pricing information with me? I see Tivoli is now
offering 'up to 50% off' upgrade from ADSM to TSM, but how does that
translate to $$?
We paid $15K (Sept '99) for our ADSM software and were given a quote for
$15K to upgrade to TSM.
Is that out of line?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

We try to find a solution to put in place a DRM Solution.

Currently we have TSM 3.7.2 running on AIX 4.3.2 connected to a 3494 library
with 3 drives 3590B
All is working fine.

I tried to use the export solution but ... in the preview I have 373 Gigs of
data to export for a BackupActive solution.

I tried with no preview but after 10 hours it has only backed up 200 Megs
!?!

We also have another ADSM Server (TSM 3.7.2 on AIX 4.3.2 connected to a 3575
with 3 drives 3570)
We can put this system on another site but we only have a bandwith of 4
Mbit/s for the moment.

We only want to have active backups outside the company.

Did anyone have a good solution ?

Best Regards,
Frederic.

Hi, Frederic,

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to do, but I think you want a
replica of your onsite data on an offsite *SM server, which has different
tape drives than the onsite *SM server? And the network bandwidth is
insufficient to perform export/imports each day?

Is there no option of moving tapes between the sites? My preference is to
move the data on tape by putting a single drive on one of the systems. In
your case, the less expensive path would be to put a 3570 drive on your
onsite *SM server and export/import, or use a tapepool or copypool to move
the data. The latter requires a database restore on the remote site each
day. You certainly need to do this for the initial set of data to be moved.

You don't mention how much data changes each day, but I expect with the size
of your data that it will be too much to move over your 4Mbit link.

Hey *smers

I have just located a website that has links to F-Secure, Norton (Symantec)
NAI and Trend Antivirus with patches for the VBS.Loveletter.A (Loveletter
Virus).

goto the URL

http://www.canada-av.com/

it should auto forward you to general info page. Select Virus Alert - May 4
2000 - VBS.LoveLetter.A

srcoll down to the bottom of the page. You will see the links.

Since our shop uses Norton I have downloaded the appropriate file and
tested it. Readme.txt gives a breakdown of the files on the ftp site.

I have tested the norton patch and it does detect the file.

Hi Jack. I have tried the same test as you mentioned below. I received
the same results with the GUI, but not with the command line interface
using the -pick -inactive options. The only difference between our setup
and yours is as follows :

ADSM Server Level : ADSM 3.1 level 2.20
AIX ADSM Server OS Level : 4.3.3
Policy : Keep max 3 inactive versions for a max 21
days each.
Keep last inactive version for 60 days.

I am not sure if these factors altering my results. I know this is not
much, but maybe it will give you and idea or two.

Subject: Possible problem with TSM BA client for windows?
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Smart People,

This one is really getting me can anybody confirm this? I am currently
testing
the new BA client for NT version 3 release 7 1.0.1. Running ADSM 3.1 level
2.50
on AIX 4.3.2.

Policy in ADSM is set to keep 2 deleted versions and 7 active. Using the
TSM BA
client I back up a dir and then restore it has no problems. I back up the
dir
again delete the files in the dir from the client run another incremental
and
the report at the end of the backup says x files have been marked inactive.
This all looks good also.

At this point the file I am trying to restore only exists on the ADSM
server.
When I bring up the TSM client to restore the file with gui or command line
it
reports that no files exist!! Also tried backing up a file renaming the
file
backing it up again. This should mark the file inactive and back up the
new one
right. The client reports that the file is marked inactive but when I try
to
restore the file ADSM says nothing exists!! WTF!!

Yes the show inactive files switch is on.

Performing the same steps with the IBM ADSM client using the same policy
has no
problems and works as expected. All deleted versions show up. Can
somebody
explain or confirm. This is a really scary situtation.

Please respond to my e-mail as well as the list.

Thanks

Jack

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone else is getting Dr. Watson errors for the TSM
Scheduler Service?

Thanks!
