Post Problems to backup a HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy object
I am trying to make a backup of the C: E: and Y: Disk of a windows server.

I am using VSS and I have put these lines in my opt

snapshotcachelocation V:\tsmlvsacache\
SNAPSHOTCACHESIZE 80

memoryefficientbackup diskcachem
diskcachelocation W:\tsmlvsacache\

SNAPSHOTPROVIDERFS VSS

SNAPSHOTPROVIDERIMAGE VSS

I am getting this kind of error:

04/29/2009 00:29:29 ANS4007E Error processing '\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy145': access to the object is denied

The result in my backup's log looks like this:

04/29/2009 00:29:03 ANS1898I ***** Processed 827,000 files *****

Is there anyway to fix this problem with the HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy or I have to exclude it? If I have to exclude this object, what is the best way to do that ?

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21243309

My recommendations:

** use TSM Client 5.3 (no longer under support by IBM) to perform the
backup of the shadow copy object.
Or

** upgrade the OS to W2k3 then use 5.4 or 5.5 to perform the backup for
the desired shadow copy object.

Bertaut.

If you plan on using diskcachemethod, I wouldn't upgrade the client node
to W2K3 until client versions 5.4.3, 5.5.3, or 6.1.1 come out:

Post Backup NetApp CIFS filer
Hi there

I am doing some testing to backup a NetApp CIFS filer via TSM - I have a
dedicated front end machine running windows, where I have configured the
dsm.opt file to backup the filer as a network object
Eg in dsm.opt
DOMAIN ALL LOCAL
DOMAIN \\CIFS-Sharename\path

And thats all working well.

I have got a NetApp NFS filter as well, where I have been able to backup
via snapshot technology and back it up with a proxy nodename, so all i
need to do is expand a snapshot, and can browse the files / directory
paths below for restoration.

Wondering if I can do this for CIFS backup in NetApp as well through TSM
- NOTE: do not have NDMP enabled.

Hmm.... I am not sure what the "windows 2000" part means. It is not
possible for the TSM client to be Windows 2000 since VSS is not available
on that OS. It has to be Windows 2003 or higher. Windows 2000 systems
should use the TSM 5.3.6.x client, which is supported on Windows 2000 as
part of the TSM 5.4 product. Do not use 5.4 or higher on Windows 2000.

I cannot definitively say what the problem is, but one wild guess is APAR
IC60285 (go to the URL in my sig, then do a search on IC60285). There is no
fix available yet, but I'm not convinced that is the problem. You might try
the workaround of using the -incrbydate option to see if that allows you to
complete the backup. Either way, I suggest opening a call with IBM to
confirm the problem.

Note: The SNAPSHOTCACHELOCATION and SNAPSHOTCACHESIZE are relevant only
when OFS is used as the snapshot provider. You might already know this, but
since I saw them in your options file, I figured I would mention it.

Best regards,

Andy
