Post System requirements
I want to verify what I think I already know from checking IBM's system
requirements pages.

I have taken a new position where I need to administer a 6.2 TSM server.
I have been given access to a desktop on a Win2k server with 154 MB of free
space on the C: drive on which to install the BAclient (in order to use
dsmadmc, my only means of administering the server.)

...I need to go back to 5.3 or so before install on a Win2K server is
supported, don't I?

Hi George,

I guess that dsmadmc from a 5.3 client will be able to administer a TSM
6.2 server event if it's not tested and supported by IBM.

For requirements, see :
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21303997

Note that, if your workstation is able to communicate with the TSM
server but you can't install anything on your it, give a try to TSM
Explorer Console (portable version) available here :
http://www.s-iberia.com/download.html

I would also recommend TSM Facilitator:
http://www.zockinger.com/software/ZOCFFT
Use it daily - for me, its the best TSM admin/monitoring tool.

Many thanks Erwann,

Hmmm.... I am still getting the same error. I initially assumed that the
casue of the message below was that the versions I was trying to install
were incompatible with the Windows version. But, I have had the same
result with a 5.3 Client version on this Win2K server.
The message appears after starting the installer package while the contents
are being read:

*"The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The .exe you are attempting
to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file, verify
its integrity and try again."*

I wonder if I simply don't have the necessary permission. I can not find
my User in the list of Current Users in Windows ComputerManagement. (I am
not a Winders Admin, so this puzzles me.)

With many of the bundled installers, you can use something like 7-Zip to
list the contents of the bundle.

If 7-Zip lists some fo the contents, but returns an error, you can
generally trust that something is wrong with the downloaded file.

Thanks,

Oddly enough, I can download the 535c_X32 Install package to my Win7 x64
laptop and extract it just fine. I stopped the installation before it went
far because Windows and Norton were giving me all kinds of 12/21/2012
messages about what this package might do to my computer, but it went past
where the Win2K server declared a corrupt file...so the file is fine.
