Post Tape Volume usage
Hello

I have several Tape Archive Pools defined on TSM.

The Archive's tapes are removed periodically from TSM library to a safe.

During normal TSM usage there are some Nodes that made archives to those
storage pools.

Regarding that some of the tapes are offsite TSM Library, TSM use new
scratch volumes for archive.

Now I have several archives tapes with low PCT_UTILIZED how are using
many tapes like the example bellow.

Example:

VOLUME_NAME EST_CAPACITY PCT_UTILIZED PCT_RECLAIM

------------------ ----------------- ------------
-----------

A00015L4 832845.5 88.7

A00018L4 1600000.0 2.1

AE0077L4 1600000.0 2.4

AE0080L4 1600000.0 14.8

Note: Collocation are not used in Storage Pool

My question is: There are any way to configure storage pool to use the
minimal number of tapes (use tape maximum capacity on storage pool)?

There are any way to reduce the number of tapes using the maximum tape
capacity or I have to do it manually with command (MOVE DATA)?

Thank you

Team,

I am facing TDP for domino API issue. Did anyone faced this issue earlier?

Tiago,
The storage pool needs reclamation. Set the storage pool "reclamin" value
to something lower than 100%. If you are using DRM, reclamation would be
painless (as it generates new tapes using primary stg pool, not offsite
tapes). Otherwise it would ask to get the volumes back from offsite.

Hello

It sounds, from your post, that you are ejecting PRIMARY volumes to put in
the safe, this is not really how it's supposed to work.

Whilst you can of course take them out of the library, TSM expects to be
able to use them whenever it wants.

You are seeing incresed tape usage because TSM cannot append to a tape that
is not available.

You should keep all primary volumes in the library and have a copy storage
pool to keep in the safe, that way you will not use loads of volumes AND
reclaimation will also work.

The other benefit is that you will have TWO copies of the data. Ejecting
primary volumes means only one copy - if you have a volume go bad (or
missing) you have lost data.
