TDPExchange - Full Backup fails with TCP/IP Error

Post TDPExchange - Full Backup fails with TCP/IP Error
Hi List,

for a few weeks one of our Exchange server full backup is failing.
We performed cli and gui FULL backups but each time the FULL backup
ends with the following error message:

dsierror.log :
ANS1017E Session rejected: TCP/IP connection failure
sessSendVerb: Error sending Verb, rc: -50
ANS1017E Session rejected: TCP/IP connection failure
sessSendVerb: Error sending Verb, rc: -50
ANS1017E Session rejected: TCP/IP connection failure
tdpexc.log:
Backup of storage group Storage Group 1 failed.
ANS1017E (RC-50) Session rejected: TCP/IP connection failure
Retrying failed backups...
Backup of storage group Storage Group 1 failed.
ANS1017E (RC-50) Session rejected: TCP/IP connection failure
Retrying failed backups...

Up to the failure >100GB were transferred to the TSM server.

We did not yet see any issues on the network card of the exchange
server though.
TSM is run on AIX. I just ftped a 100GB to the AIX server successfully.

Which trace option will show if Exchange does not send data before
session times out ?

Thanks,

Note that you only examined one side of the logging: review the TSM server Activity Log. There, you may well find a timeout for the session, which you can pursue. If the server is using default values, the timeout values are probably too low.

Hi,
the server actlog shows after sending of 114GB backup data.
ANE4993E (Session: 129167, Node: EXCH_TDP) TDP
MSExchg ACN3502 Data Protection for Exchange: full backup of Storage
Group 1 from server EXCH_TDP failed, rc = 418. (SESSION: 129167)

As the TDP does not send more data the TSM server the session is
terminated after the connection timeout value (7000s).

There are 4 storage groups on that Exchange server but only two of them
(1+2) keep failing - for FULL backups.

ADSM-L search results point to a network issue for RC=418. Why finishes
the backup successfully for the other two storage groups?

I played around with TDPBUffers and TDPBufsize settings and somehow one
full backup of SG1 finished successfully. I cannot recreate that though.

Is that a TDP or Exchange 2007 issue ? How can I track down if Exchange
does not send any data to TDP or the TDP cannot send any further data
to TSM ?
Which Exchange Logs show more details. The application eventlog does
not help.

Thanks.

Hello Eg,

I recommend opening a PMR with IBM support.
They will be able to examine the trace and determine
what is happening.

Thanks,

Del
