Post Windows 2008 client ..TSM schedule wont run 
Hi,
We have 4 windows 2008 that are missing consistently the TSM scheduler is set to start however the backups don't run.
f.y.i - We had this issue about 5 months ago and the admin set the UAC to the lowest settings and turned the firewall off and the backups worked until recently. The admin says the firewall is turned off and the settings are the same.
Anyone else have or have had this issue?

Windows 2008 64 bit R2 servers
Tivoli clients 6.2.2.2

From the TSM server, does a TELNET <nodeIP> <listeningPort> work?

If not, I'd suspect the node isn't listening or the firewall is in the way.

You should set your client schedule to pooling mode. Refresh the client scheduler service and check the dsmsched.log.

I would bet there is a firewall issue. Can't count the times server admins have insisted that the ports are opened or firewall is off, when that was not the case on further checking.
I always specify my ports using the webport option, then insure that those ports are open in the firewall.

I think this is a firewall issue also and yes I specified ports using the webport option when we had this issues months ago. Now we are having the same issue all of a sudden.

If there are no entries in the scheduler log during the backup window time
frame, make sure the power settings aren't putting the cpu to sleep.

Then Harold has the right answer. If you can telnet from the tsm server to the client at the port the listener is suppose to be using, than it is not a firewall problem. If the telnet attempt times out, either the cad (or scheduler) is not running, it is using a different port (see the cad startup messages in dsmwebcl.log), or there is a firewall/network issue blocking access.

Hi Timothy,

If the TCP port is listenning (client side), and telneting to this port is impossible, the firewall is propably the root cause of the problem (considering other network considerations are ok).

Actually the telnet attempt just sits there no response, I thinks it's a firewall issue but according to the admin nothing has changed. The schedule shows ready for a backup tonight but it won't do anything. I am going to check on the firewall again.

On the node side, open a command prompt and issue NETSTAT -A -N

Do you see the port number listening? The TSM default is 1501, I believe.

In my case: 'TCP 0.0.0.0:1501 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING' is displayed.

If the port is listening and you can't TELNET to it (assuming you have TELNET allowed through your network), it's most likely the firewall IS blocking the traffic.

If not, stop/start the scheduler service as David recommends.

Like others, we've been round-n-round this issue with firewall managers saying "we never change" only to find they did.

Presumably, then, this schedule is not run under CAD, and thus the client option MANAGEDServices is not in play, and thus no dsmwebcl.log to be examined. Your next step, then, is to examine the TSM server Activity Log for evidence of issues. And, obviously, assure that DEFine ASSOCiation is in place for that node to participate in a schedule. If options changes were made with the dsmc schedule process in existence, it would need to be restarted for the new values to be in effect. Whereas Prompted mode is in effect, you can telnet to the client 1501 port, whereupon the telnet should just sit there if the service is healthy.
