Backup Central

Hello. I just took over a backupsystem with 7.4 running. From now, i will put all old tapes out of the qualstar and begin a new strategy. As i could see, no service packs or something is installed on netvault. The installation was 2006.
I wondering how to start new backup jobs with new tapes and if there is a need to update to 8.x, or any service packs. Sorry for this questions, as I am an absolutely newbie and i do not want to do a big mistake just from the beginning.... Thank you so much... // mko

I believe you'll have to get on 7.4.1 or 7.4.3 minimum before going 8.xx

You'll definitely want to upgrade to 8.5 (latest version). If you have an active maintenance contract with BakBone, there's no additional cost involved to upgrade. Your best bet will be to contact BakBone and find out if you have an active contract with them

As long as your maintenance is active you are eligible to upgrade. 8.x support more filesystem types.

You can do direct upgrade from 7.4 to 8.2.2, then you ca upgrade to the latest 8.5 version. Backup client would need to be upgrade to the same version as well.
