Post getting a saveset id via netvault report
Hi guys,

I have implemented a script that generates a netvault report and lists out all the tapes expiring on a day and then uses the nvreuse command to expire them before my backups begin.

Now i have a different scenario. I have multiple savesets on a single tape and i want to expire some and keep some. Now does anyone know which netvault report component has the 'saveset id' column in it? because for the life of me ive looked and looked but cant seem to find it.

Cheers,
Hassan

The saveset ID cannot (currently) be reported on. However, one of the 8.x releases introduced the nvrestore utility with a "-list" parameter - this DOES list the saveset IDs, and you can process this in a script.

However, I have to question why you would to manually reuse tapes, and what you would need saveset IDs for. If a tape is "expiring on a day", it will be "marked for reuse" - and as soon as a tape is in this state, the next job will come along and use it (if it is allowed to so on its target options).

With a correctly defined backup strategy, retentions settings and group and target settings, it should never be necessary to manually reuse a tape - through the GUI or by scripting.
