Backup to chrooted environment

Post Backup to chrooted environment
Hi there,

has anyone succeeded in backing up to a server running a chrooted ssh
environment? I tried to do so, but I think I forgot to copy some files
to the chroot jail...

rdiff-backup only says "Fatal Error: Truncated header string (problem
probably originated remotely)".

Michael.

use something like
--remote-schema "ssh %s strace -o /var/tmp/out -f -F rdiff-backup server"

but read the man page i might have that wrong...

anyhow you will hopefully get a hint in the strace output.

I considered it, but came to the conclusion it was too hard. I am sure
its possible, but a better solution is as follows:

I think it would be easier to tackele the problem by using vserver or xen.

http://linux-vserver.org/

http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/Research/SRG/netos/xen/index.html

once we get off our backsides and get a new box in our rack, we are
going to be offering rdiff-backup hosting on one of these technologies

Yes, I'm using it like that now.

rdiff-backup only says "Fatal Error: Truncated header string (problem
probably originated remotely)".

I'd try running the server as a client. Most likely, this will fail out
with a nice error message. IIRC, this is how I debugged the similar
problems I had.

Michael.
