Backup Central

Hi List,

I am doing something wrong perhaps, please help me if you can.

I have a webserver, running RedHat 9.0, rdiff-backup 0.12.6. Backups are
(successfully!) being sent to another Linux box (Fedora Core 1) on my LAN.

The problem is the files have the ownership change when they copy to the
destination.

Here's the command I use:

rdiff-backup /www/medfordareaaa.org/ backup < at > 192.168.3.210::/mnt/test_backup

Here's a listing of some files at /www/medfordareaaa.org/ and
mnt/test_backup

Is the solution simple?

Did you guess I'm kinda new at this?

Not sure, I am reading it right, but unless you write the destination as
root, you won't be able to preserve the ownership of the files I thought...

When you work as non-root on the backup-server, then ownership will have
to be changed on the backup-server. The "backup" user on the backup-server
cannot store files having other owners.


Is the solution simple?

rdiff-backup remembers what the owner of the original file was on the
origin server, so if you restore the files to the origin server, then they
should regain their proper ownership. There isn't a problem, so there is
no simple solution.
