rdiff-backup installation fails
Author Message
Post rdiff-backup installation fails
Hi everybody,

I tried to upgrade two computers (both RedHat 7, kernel 2.4.18-10smp)
from rdiff-backup 0.11.0 to rdiff-backup 0.12.7, but " python setup.py
install " fails on both computers with the same error message :
/usr/local/lib/librsync.a: could not read symbols: File format not
recognized
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
First I though it might be the python version, but after upgrading to
Python 2.4 the error message was still the same. Could something have
corrupted the librsync.a file?
It worked fine when I installed rdiff-backup on another computer (
Fedora 3) two days ago.
Any suggestions what I should do or what went wrong?

Thanks a lot,

Susanne

Install from the source RPM instead. It's much safer than installing
directly, which is what it sounds like you are doing.
