remove-older-than takes hours and slows down the system....
actually, my first guess is that you're running out of temp space since
you said there's 0% space available. i know there's a way to tell
rdiff-backup to use a different location for temp, so either specify a
temp location on a different disk with more space, or clear out some
room before removing your increments.

If the system is running some Unix flavor, you can try tools like 'top'

incremental backup directory, and start from scratch online, unless there is
a faster way to remove the files?
This is running on a RH 7.3, The number of users is usually about 20, and is
not open to the internet.
