Samba?

Post Samba?
Well i'm having lots of trouble getting rdiff-backup to work well in
Cygwin. Maybe the docmentation is a little incomplete .... Anyway,
my work around is to use Samba and file shares for the LAN windows
boxes. Then backup the mounted shared dir. I am wondering if anyone
else is doing this? Is there a better way. (I hate Samba). I just
would like to hear thoughts on this method.

are you trying to backup win32 (cyg) -> win32 ?
it doesn't work.

if you want something that does work for win32 -> linux thne you can one
of my packages:
http://sol1.net/~dave/backup/

in particular
http://solutionsfirst.com.au/~dave/backup/rdiff-backup0.13.4w3.exe
is probably what you want.

anyway - I am using samba alot - specifically you don't actually need
samba, but smbfs or cifs.
cifs, while not in kernel 2.4, is worth the effort of patching your
kernel, if you are backing up win2k3 servers or xp boxes
