Segmentation Fault Error - Rdiff-Backup

Post Segmentation Fault Error - Rdiff-Backup
###############################
Rdiff-backup Version: 0.13.6
Python Version: 2.3.4-3
Distro: Suse 9.2 Pro
Kernel Version: 2.6.8-24
###############################

I keep encountering an error every time I run an rdiff-backup job. The error is as follows:

./backup-homes: line2: 703 Segmentation fault rdiff-backup /home /bkps/homes

Segmentation fault? Funny thing is, the first Full Backup runs fine.
This error shows up when the incremental backup occurs. The total size of the /homes is about 19GB.

Here is my backup script:

##############################################################
#!/bin/bash
rdiff-backup --exclude /home/'**'/.recycled /home /bkps/homes
###############################################################

I've exhausted a google search and I'm hoping some people can shed some light on this. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Delamatrix

Can you run the backup with increased verbosity? like -v6 or -v7 and
send the rdiff-backup log.
A segfault is a pretty lowlevel thing, so I doubt its rdiff-backup, but
send us the log and we can check it out.

Dave,

Thanks for the info. Ok, this time I ran the backup with the following
arguments:
##############
-v7 --no-compression
##############
I ran it a few times and I haven't got the "segmentation fault" error,
yet. Could the "--no-compression" argument could have made a difference?

Okay, I ran the backup with -v7 verbosity, and the backup stops at this
point:

##################################################
Writing file object to /bkps/homes/ronnie/mydata/Last
Year/rdiff-backup.tmp.6
./backup-homes: line 2: 4808 Segmentation fault
##################################################

I tried running the backup with samba stopped, but no luck. Earlier in
the day, I wan the same backup and it stopped in the same fashion, just
with a different folder and file.

Any suggestions?

If this is repeatable, and initial backups work fine, and it always
works fine with --no-compression, then it seems very likely the
problem is with python's use of the zlib library on your system.

rdiff-backup doesn't have much C code in it, and python code should
never segfault no matter how buggy it is. So in general rdiff-backup
segfaults are problems with the python implementation.
