Sorry for the very long delay. It is available on the web page as
usual. Here is the relevant part of the CHANGELOG:

New in v0.13.5 (2005/03/2Cool
---------------------------

Added error-correcting fsync suggestion by Antoine Perdaens.
rdiff-backup may work better with NFS now.

Fix by Dean Gaudet for --calculate-average mode (it broke somewhere in
0.13.x).

Fix for regress warning code: rdiff-backup should warn you if you are
trying to back up a directory into itself.

Fix for restoring certain directories when not run as root.

Now when determining group permissions check supplementary groups as
well as main group. (Bug report by Ryan Castle.)

Fixed bug which could cause crash when backing up 3 or more hard
linked files and the first gets deleted during processing. (Thanks to
Dean Gaudet for bug report.)

Fixed user/group restoring error noticed by Fran Firman.

Checked in Robert Shaw's --chars-to-quote patch

Treated hard link permission problem on Mac OS X by applying
suggestion by David Vasilevsky

Dean Gaudet's patch fixes "--restrict /" option.

Added Robert Shaw's --exclude-fifo, --include-symbolic-links,
etc. options.

Added Maximilian Mehnert's fix for too many open files bug.

Are there any suggestions or outstanding patches for getting 0.13.x
working on osx? I particularly happy with rdiff-backup on our linux
systems but I need to add a number of those osx beasts... :)

There aren't any unprocessed patches that I'm aware of. I don't have
experience running it on Mac OS X though.

People,

Talking about the mac-os version how about also
reviving interest in the almost ( ? ) windows version
of rdiffbackup ? I am sure there are some window users
out there that might be interested. Please make
yourself heard.

I'm very interested in a windows version, but was afraid that it might
be more easier to rewrite it. If anyone gets the ball rolling on this,
I'd be happy to help.

It would have been something about permission denied.

The problem was the order in which rdiff-backup changed the permission
of directories. For instance, for a non-root user to restore a file
that was in a directory with permissions of 0555, rdiff-backup has to
make it with 0700 or similar, then put everything in it, then change
it to 0555 as it leaves. In certain cases rdiff-backup would write
the final permissions to the directory too soon.

Sorry for responding to this so late, but I wanted to mention that I've
been using 0.13.4 under Mac OS X 10.3 on a casual basis, and I haven't
noticed any problems with it.

The only issue I had was this one:
http://savannah.nongnu.org/patch/index.php?func=detailitem&item_id=3861

Note that I haven't done any rigorous testing, such as backing up
resource forks, but I would guess that it otherwise works quite well on
Mac OS X.

Trevor

P.S. You can get rdiff-backup from Fink, by the way. Very handy.

I think the right thing to do there is what Andrew Bressen
suggested---make the --override-chars-to-quote option documented, and
perhaps give it a better alias like --no-quoting that's short for
"--override-chars-to-quote ''", and if it detects a Mac OS X volume on
each side, suggest that --no-quoting could be used.
