Post Cant get rsnapshot to work
Hi,

I using rsnapshot 1.2.1 under Gentoo and I haven't been able to get it
to work. This is my rsnapshot.conf file:

# All snapshots will be stored under this root directory.
snapshot_root /mnt/rsnapshot/backups/

# If no_create_root is enabled, rsnapshot will not automatically create the
# snapshot_root directory. This is particularly useful if you are backing
# up to removable media, such as a FireWire drive.

# The include and exclude parameters, if enabled, simply get passed directly

The rsnapshot_root IS mounted and when I run snapshot daily I get the
following output:

[root < at > hilary ~]# rsnapshot daily
Setting locale to POSIX "C"
/mnt/rsnapshot/backups/daily.6 not present (yet), nothing to delete
/mnt/rsnapshot/backups/daily.5 not present (yet), nothing to rotate
/mnt/rsnapshot/backups/daily.4 not present (yet), nothing to rotate
/mnt/rsnapshot/backups/daily.3 not present (yet), nothing to rotate
/mnt/rsnapshot/backups/daily.2 not present (yet), nothing to rotate
/mnt/rsnapshot/backups/daily.1 not present (yet), nothing to rotate
/mnt/rsnapshot/backups/daily.0 not present (yet), nothing to rotate
/mnt/rsnapshot/backups/hourly.5 not present (yet), nothing to copy
/usr/bin/logger -i -p user.notice -t rsnapshot /usr/bin/rsnapshot daily: \
completed successfully

Nothing is created under /mnt/rsnapshot/backups/. No daily.0. Nothing.
I'm sure it is a config problem but what am I doing wrong?

TIA

Your problem is probably that daily doesn't actually make a backup, it
just renames hourly.5 to daily.0 (after deleting daily.6, and shifting
the other daily.N up one, as needed). The only version that makes a
backup is the very first one, so run 'rsnapshot hourly' to test. [Or,
if you don't need hourly, just comment it out and run daily again.]
