I probably ought to be ashamed that now that a crash as occured the
rsnapshot data are unavailable as well. Therefor I would like to ask for
help.
On my opensuse 10.3 system there is an external hd connected by usb in
which the rsnapshot data are stored. Normally I can see the data with
the file manager konqueror. I upgraded opensuse from 10.2 to 10.3
trusting that the home directory stored in the external device could be
reunited to the then newly installed 10.3 system. But ... for some
unknown reason there are no data anymore visible with konqueror. In my
panic I sent the external hard disc to a data recovery company which
after some time said that there is no hope of recovering. They
summarized their results by (translated from German):
Severe structural problem.
All (!) data visible, but data corruption. No
data recovery.
Pondering about this I have the following question:
- Could the failiure when trying to recover the data
be related to the special kind of data organisation
within rsnapshot - no data, but hard links to data - ?
- If so: is there a possibility to still recover the
data?
Hoping
A. Mehl
