hard links not working

Post hard links not working
I've noticed that rsnapshot seems to be making actual copies of some
(large?) files in each of the backups (houry.0, hourly.1, etc) instead
of making hard links. The example below shows such a file which had not
changed all day during these backups but rsnapshot made copies of the
file as evidenced by the different inode numbers:

[root < at > ark .snapshots]# ll -i
/.backup/.snapshots/hourly.0/romulus/Mail/Local\ Folders/Inbox
30150080 ---------- 1 root 513 2103851266 Dec 21 12:59
/.backup/.snapshots/hourly.0/romulus/Mail/Local Folders/Inbox
[root < at > ark .snapshots]# ll -i
/.backup/.snapshots/hourly.1/romulus/Mail/Local\ Folders/Inbox
25067917 ---------- 1 root 513 2103851266 Dec 21 12:59
/.backup/.snapshots/hourly.1/romulus/Mail/Local Folders/Inbox
[root < at > ark .snapshots]# ll -i
/.backup/.snapshots/hourly.2/romulus/Mail/Local\ Folders/Inbox
19301302 ---------- 1 root 513 2103851266 Dec 21 12:59
/.backup/.snapshots/hourly.2/romulus/Mail/Local Folders/Inbox
[root < at > ark .snapshots]# ll -i
/.backup/.snapshots/hourly.3/romulus/Mail/Local\ Folders/Inbox
9078122 ---------- 1 root 513 2103851266 Dec 21 12:59
/.backup/.snapshots/hourly.3/romulus/Mail/Local Folders/Inbox
[root < at > ark .snapshots]# ll -i
/.backup/.snapshots/hourly.4/romulus/Mail/Local\ Folders/Inbox
170853782 ---------- 1 root 513 2103851266 Dec 21 12:59
/.backup/.snapshots/hourly.4/romulus/Mail/Local Folders/Inbox
[root < at > ark .snapshots]# ll -i /.backup/.snapshots/hourly.4/romulus/
total 70728

It doesn't seem to be all files, just some. For example, the following
file was clearly hard linked:

[root < at > ark .snapshots]# ll -i /.backup/.snapshots/hourly.4/romulus/xpti.dat
170789625 ---------- 5 1003 513 87813 Nov 3 10:11
/.backup/.snapshots/hourly.4/romulus/xpti.dat
[root < at > ark .snapshots]# ll -i /.backup/.snapshots/hourly.0/romulus/xpti.dat
170789625 ---------- 5 1003 513 87813 Nov 3 10:11
/.backup/.snapshots/hourly.0/romulus/xpti.dat
[root < at > ark .snapshots]# ll -i
/.backup/.snapshots/hourly.4/romulus/Mail/Local\ Folders/Inbox

Has anyone had experience with this happening?

Ken

Nope. Two things spring to mind.

1) that's a VERY big file. Is there some filesystem limit that might be
screwing with things?

2) while everything may look the same to ls, are you sure that the file
contents are the same? Use md5sum to check.
