Hey there,

is it possible to backup a my whole hard-drive (directory: '\') to an
additional USB-drive? What should I type into the config-file at the
backup-line?

backup // localhost/

That looks like a Windows partition. That's not "the whole drive".

to an additional USB-drive?

Do you really want "the whole drive" (p.e. including the MBR) or only
"the only partition"?

No - sorry.

Backing up "the whole drive" with "rsnapshot" is nonsense - for that
purpose you should use an "imaging" program.

One partition: Windows or Linux?
If Windows: maybe you need another program than "rsnapshot"; "rsnapshot"
needs a file system which can use "hard links".

That will just work as it should. Rsnapshot will add the exclude line for your backup_root automatically. But you will probably need to adjust some additional configuration options like rsync options (to include devices files) and exclude large file systems with user data (i.e. where you keep your games/music/movies). As has been noted by Helmut the backup_root location must support hard links to work efficiently with rsnapshot.

Example:
$ cat rsnapshot.conf|grep ^backup
backup    /        localhost/


$ rsnapshot -c rsnapshot.conf -vt sync
echo 8077 > /home/non7top/rsnapshot.pid
/usr/bin/rsync -a --delete --numeric-ids --relative --delete-excluded
    --exclude=home/non7top/bkp /. /home/non7top/bkp/.sync/localhost/
touch /home/non7top/bkp/.sync/
