No. But if you don't specify cmd_cp at all, then rsnapshot will Do The
Right Thing itself, just do it a little slower.

However the option "-a" does produce many "errors" because my
destination (cifs) is not able to preserve some attributes (e.g. owner
and group).

This will make it very hard for you to restore your backups. Now, if
all you're backing up is your home directory, where everything has the
same user/group and it's not hard to reconstruct files' mode bits, then
you may be able to get away with it.

HOWEVER, I don't believe that CIFS supports hard links, and so you won't
get the biggest benefit of rsnapshot - namely that it saves disk space.
You might as well just periodically create a new backup directory and
copy stuff to it.
