Post how to use exclude
Hello list,

I have the following setup to backup
Main machine:
/vz/pivate/211
/vz/pivate/212
/vz/pivate/213
/vz/pivate/214
/vz/pivate/215

All the directorys holding lot of files/directorys
Now I wat to exclude every directory that is called
/cache/
/mgrcache/

But only in the /vz/pivate/212/...

Wo how can I use wildcarts for this

Thanxs

Steffan

Hallo, Steffan,

Du meintest am 16.01.12:

Wo how can I use wildcarts for this

*/pivate/212/cache/*
*/pivate/212/mgrcache/*

should do the job.
Is "pivate" a typo (instead of "private")?

Viele Gruesse!
Helmut

That is not what i mean
Cache can be in several places
/private/112/.home/.sites/12/web/cache
/private/112/.home/.sites/12/web/tmp/cache
/private/112/.home/.sites/15/web/sites/cache
/private/112/.home/.sites/19/web/x/sites/temp/cache

So is there a general way without using
/private/112/.home/.sites/*/web/cache/* etc

I don't have your answer, but the exclude option is passed directly
to rsync. The rsync man page has some examples of the exclude format,
and if that doesn't help, the rsync mailing list archives probably have
more examples. There are also a few articles if you google for "rsync
exclude example":

http://articles.slicehost.com/2007/10/10/rsync-exclude-files-and-folders
http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2011/01/rsync-exclude-files-and-folders/
[...etc...]

I don't think it's off-topic to ask about rsync on this mailing
list (as many of the Rsnapshot options are simply passed on to rsync),
but you might find what you're looking for under 'rsync' instead of
'rsnapshot'.

Personally, I find the rsync exclude format non-intuitive. It's
similar to (but not exactly the same as) a simple shell file glob.

Good Luck,
Derek
