Hallo, Mudasir,
Du meintest am 27.04.11:
I have recently installed rsnapshot, however i have one query.
I see that each time rsnapshot is run it creates a new dir (e.g
daily0 , daily1), however the backup is the same.
I presume that there are some differences. Look at the output of
rsnapshot du
rsnapshot diff
Is it in any way possible that for each backup point it creates only
one dir (e.g daily) and then updates that with incremental backups
each time rsnapshot is run.
That's nearly the way rsnapshot works. Look into the log file ("/var/
log/rsnapshot.log") to see how it works.
Or do you really want only 1 backup, not 1 backup per day for a long
time? That's no good idea.
And don't look only onto the names of the directories but onto the time
stamps of them too - "rsnapshot" creates only "hourly.0" (or which name
the newest backup may have), all other directories are only renamed.
Viele Gruesse!
Helmut
