Moving rsnapshot repository between disk

Post Moving rsnapshot repository between disk
Is there an easy way to do it (on a Linux box, FC4) so that I can move
an entire snapshot tree (keeping the hardlinks intact) to another
filesystem, or should I just rsync over daily.0 and start over?

Bill,

Try using rsync between machines, using the --hard-links option.

Something like:

[root < at > newhost]# rsync -av --rsh=ssh --hard-links \
root < at > oldhost/.snapshots/ \
/.snapshots/

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks,
-Nathan

Come to think of it, a --numeric-ids option probably would have been
good too. At least with rsync you could do a quick second pass if you
want :)

Well,

rsync --varu --numeric-ids --hard-links /backups/ /usb/

did the trick! Thanks!

(moved my rsnapshots to a USB2 external disk.. my client isn't paying
enough for me to keep his backups on my 160G of SATA goodness.. Cool )

I used

rsync -varu --numeric-ids --hard-links /backups/ /usb/

(moving the snapshots to an external USB2 HD on the same host)

Worked great! Thanks.
