Thanks! I'll wait and see if rsnapshot daily works as I have it
scheduled at 2:00 am everyday. I'll report my findings later.

What I can't understand is why "rsnapshot -t hourly" showed invocation
of the cmd_preexec script explicitly while "rsnapshot -t daily" (or for
that matter weekly and monthly) doesn't.

Further information after hourly.1 is created successfully by "rsnapshot
hourly". "rsnapshot daily" does not run successfully.

Here's the test I've just done. The real log showed the same behaviour.

I have these options in my rsnapshot.conf

no_create_root 1
cmd_preexec /usr/local/bin/rsnapshot-mount-bkup.sh
cmd_postexec /usr/local/bin/rsnapshot-umount-bkup.sh

The conclusion seems to be that "rsnapshot daily" is *not* using the
"cmd_preexec" command at all.

Further search turns up these related debian bug reports (and links
pointing to the rsnapshot bug tracker in sourceforge).
