can I use rsnapshot to keep a local, versioned copy of my Dr

Post can I use rsnapshot to keep a local, versioned copy of my Dr
I use a MacBook Air running 10.7.4. I also have an iMac at home that is used as media storage, etc.  Lastly, I have an AirPort Extreme with a (currently empty) 2TB drive attached.

I have given up on trying to use Time Machine because it sucks and it's too hard to make it backup just want I want it to backup. And it's slow and makes my computer crawl.

At home I have an incredibly slow, high latency satellite Internet connection, which makes using Dropbox impractical.

At the office I have a nice DSL connection which works great with Dropbox.

So what I usually do is quit Dropbox when I come home, and launch it again when I am at the office.

This usually works well enough that all my files are uploaded to Dropbox, but I lose the "versioning" of the edits which were made when I was offline. That's not something I use a lot but I like having the safety net.

My idea was this: find some way to keep a local, versioned backup of my $HOME (and Dropbox) when I am home, and then use Dropbox when I am at the office.

So I went googling around and found rshapshot, and I was wondering if it might be a good choice.

Can rsnapshot backup to an AirDisk (attached drive to my AirPort Extreme)? I could backup to the iMac, but it's not wired in to the router like the AirDisk is.

Any other suggestions would be welcome. Unfortunately the DSL line that was supposed to reach our neighbor 2 years ago hasn't happened, so satellite is my only option at home, and it's awful in every way.

Thanks for your time

rsnapshot can backup to any media that is accessible from the host where
it runs. So, for example, if your AirDisk is mounted as
/Volumes/AirDisk, you would specify that as your destination.
If you need help with configuration, you can post the output from mount
(run from Terminal) at the point where you have all your sources and
targets mounted.

I think you'd be better off looking for a version control system. There
are several these days that support offline commits, the most commonly
used of which is git:

We found no search results for "crotchet". Did you mean "crotch"?
