Post providing access via samba
I have implemented rsnapshot, and it is working well (except that
Netware backups via ncpmount are damned slow). Now people want access
to the snapshots. I like the look of the "/.private/.snapshots" scheme
described in the rsnapshot man page and howto, but when I implemented
it, Samba gave an "NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME" error. I unmounted,
reconfigured, and remounted a number of times, but the same error
occurred as long as the directories were named with leading dots.
Without the dots, i.e. "/private/snapshots", it works fine. Is there a
way to get Samba to "accept the dots"? My Samba is 3.0.22.

Thanks,

Bob Barry

I would do a read-only NFS mount of /.private/.snapshots onto
something like /snapshots and then use samba to share /snapshots.

That should make sure the recovery directory says read-only even
if someone messes with the samba config.
