"flattening" uid/gid

Post "flattening" uid/gid
I need to flatten the user/group ids - basically I want all of the
tranferred files to have the same user and group.

This should be configurable in rsync but I can't seem to figure it out....

Linux stuff has made big progress over the competition. When things sit and don't start right away, we have a watch, and those poor guys have to settle for an hourglass.

If the rsync on the destination system (the one running the pull from the
source system) doesn't have root privileges, it won't be able to use
anything but the uid you gave it. In order to read everything though, it
would need root privs on the source system. In other words, if
rsnapshot/rsync were run as a normal (non-root) user, but could ssh into
the system to be backed up as root, you'd probably get this effect. I have
no idea what problems this might cause for rsnapshot though. In recent
versions of rsync I think you are also right about there being an option
you could use, but I don't know what it is unless the man page or rsync
--help list it.
