The rsync args are multiple parameters to rsync, but a single

Ok, thanks, and to private posters too. I got that understood but
no one has had anything to say about my original question, which was
why do I see heavy gauge copying on each run of my /etc rsnapshot.

All other rsnapshot target runs make a big run now and then when
things have changed, but the /etc run is very active every time.

Could my first argument, the one that would have been seen by rsync
be causing that?

(--copy-links)

And there seems to be massive `no such file' in certain directories
under /etc, where there must be active symlinking going on.

Also since I've now corrected my *.conf file and removed the unneeded
tabs I got the first run with the results after correction and it is
419,000+ lines long.

In the output it seems absolutely every file was recopied.
The --stats report shows:

Number of files: 481193
Number of files transferred: 447071

So there were a bunch not copied over:
But etc only has:
find /etc/ -print|wc -l
3924

My long args would add to that by pulling the target of symlinks even
outside file system but my god that is a lot of pulling.

Secondary runs after the monster described above have settled into the
expected pattern of small output (39 lines) so apparently it has
stabilized now.

But the monster output can't be the desired result so something in my
long args is wrong:
(wrapped for mail)
rsync_long_args --copy-links --copy-unsafe-links --delete \
--numeric-ids --relative --delete-excluded --stats
