Rotating using autofs as a source when host is offline

Post Rotating using autofs as a source when host is offline
Dear rsnapshot experts,

We have been using rsnapshot to backup several servers with nightly
rotation and are very satisfied with the results.
Now, we need to backup a few hosts which are only reachable during
business hours.
To this end, we tried using "sync first" with regular "rsnapshot sync"s
during the day, and a final "rsnapshot daily" at night along with the
other hosts.
In order to avoid deleting the whole backup when the host is down, we
use autofs to mount the source. This way, "rsnapshot sync" cleanly quits
when the host is down.
Unfortunately, when the host is down, "rsnapshot daily" quits too - even
though it does not need the source directory to operate normally.

Can someone please tell me if there is a way of forcing rsnapshot to do
the rotation?
Or is there a simpler setup that would allow us to keep an efficient
rsnapshot backup of a host that is not connected during the rotations ?

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help us,

Lionel Sausin, writing for the Numérigraphe IT team.

IMHO you schould do the "rsnapshot daily" etc. just before the "rsnapshot
sync".

Or you use my do-rsnapshots in my posting:

That runs it all automatically.
