Post rsnapshot 1.2.9 released 
You forgot to update the default config file to remove:

# Note: Linux users with gnu cp/coreutils version > 5.3, should leave
# cmd_cp commented out, since cp fails to create destination directories
# with a trailing slash for versions 5.3 or later.

oh, and I tested the slash thing (realized that I'd been running a
patched copy of 1.2.3 for ages) and it works fine.
