Post rsnapshot - architecture-independent?
Dear all,

Has anyone had any issues with running rsnapshot on
i386/x64_8/Sparc/Unix/Linux etc.

I am currently sorting out the RPM for Fedora Extras and want to certain
that the BuildArch can be tagged as noarch

Thanks.

Post rsnapshot - architecture-independent?
I personally have tested rsnapshot on all the platforms listed on the
rsnapshot.org home page:

"Debian, Redhat, Fedora, SuSE, Gentoo, Slackware, FreeBSD, OpenBSD,
NetBSD, Solaris, Mac OS X, and even IRIX."

Solaris was on SPARC, Mac OS X was on a couple of G4s, and IRIX was an
old SGI Indigo (MIPS) box. Additionally, I've run it on most of the
machines in the SourceForge compile farm, with the exception of VMS and
maybe some really obscure ones.

The only platform specific requirements are UNIX style file paths, at
least for the server. However, several people have reported success
backing up MS Windows clients over an rsync server or with Cygwin.

In general, assuming a UNIX platform, rsnapshot tries pretty hard to
work in a lowest common denominator environment (hence some of the
alternate ways of accomplishing the same things).

Of course, I can't speak for everyone on the list. I know that GNU cp
acts a little funny on non-Linux platforms, but I imagine this may have
more to do with other factors than with the microprocessor architecture
itself.

Hope this helps!
