rsnapshot backup scheme

Post rsnapshot backup scheme
I have just installed rsnapshot (on ubuntu). However, I think that a
normal rsnapshot scheme (i.e. 6 snapshots per day, 7 per week) will not
work, because my computer is most of the time off. So, crontab will only
start rsnapshot when by coincidence the computer is on at 'snapshot
time'. Is there an alternative scheme that would work in my case (i.e. a
snapshot at system startup, and then hourly untill shutdown)?

Hallo, jacques,

Look for "anacron" - it may do the job. Especially the daily, weekly and
monthly job.

The hourly job should still be invoked by a job in "/var/spool/cron/
tabs/xxx"

If you install anacron, a standard linux utility that is available in
the Ubuntu repositories, it will automatically run your
daily/weekly/monthly cron tasks. anacron keeps track of when the tasks
were last run, and runs them a few minutes after boot if they're due to
be run.
