Hi all,
First, I offer my thanks and congratulations to the rsnapshot team and contributors for having created such an appropriate and viscerally satisfying utility. If anyone ever wonders what possible use hard links might have, they need look no further than rsnapshot.
I have encountered just one minor inconvenience (do users sign up for this mailing list otherwise?). If User A owns a snapshot root and wishes to allow User B to inspect its disk usage via the 'rsnapshot du' command, this is disallowed if User B cannot _write_ to the archive. Since 'du' is a read-only command, I feel this should be allowed as long as _read_ access is permitted. (In my specific use case, User A is an account created to host a game server, and User B is a web server process attempting to check its save game archive's disk usage.)
Attached is the tiny patch I've been using to make this possible (based on the version in Ubuntu, but these lines seem to be the same in the CVS head). It is too conservative and specific to this one situation, but it gives an idea of what is needed, and I would like to return to running the main released version someday. Does this look like the type of thing that could be added to rsnapshot?
Thanks for your time!
