Anyone way to trigger a bpstart_notify script.... (cont)
Author Message
Post Anyone way to trigger a bpstart_notify script.... (cont)
I use the bpstart_notify mechanism to execute some MSSQL maintenance scripts. The only way I can get this to work is by using a "dummy" policy that backs up only C:\boot.init. (I've also tried backing up an empty directory)

I was curious if there was a cleaner way of doing this. I would really like to use the bpstart_notify mechanism w/o generating a backup image for a single file. (This is actually a large environment with several clients/policies I'm going like this) Due to our stringent retention requirements we are stressing the limits of the catalog and one issue we face is such a large number of images.

Thx for any info.

You're looking to run the script without running a backup? Schedule it cron, Windows scheduler, third party batch processing software, etc...no reason to involve NBU at all.

This is part are a series of policies that must be run in sequence, which span multiple machines. The policies themselves are called from a script run from cron - each one blocking until the previous one completes. Since our backup infrastructure is all solaris/linux and these are windows SQL servers.

I use a tool called psexec from the pstools library on windows systems to
run tasks on other windows servers like remote scripts executables. What
have you. It is a comman line tool so you should be able to script it how
you want in the order you want.

Hello,

you can create a poliy type "DataStore" and within this policy you call your script. That is similar to a "oracle" type policy.

Hope this helps
