Archive Bit Clear issue in NDMP Backup

Post Archive Bit Clear issue in NDMP Backup
Dear Al,

Here is our setup.

Master Server (6.5.6) = Sun Solaris 10 (64bit)
Media Server (6.5.6) = Sun Solaris 10 (64 bit) and AIX
Tape Library Storage Teck.
Filer = Net Apps.

The issue is recently we have moved our Windows SQL backup’s from windows client to Remote NDMP Backup.
The backup is working fine and through put has increased from 25mb/sec to 65mb/sec. Really it is a good speed over the LAN.

The issue is NDMP Backup is not clearing the Archive Bit after the Backups.

I have gone through Symantec Forum but could not find some custom script or advise to change the archive bit after the NDMP Backup.

I am sure I am not the Ist who has adopted this method.

I will highly appreciate your comments and advise how we can achieve this. i.e some methods or custom scripts etc..

With Regards
Harpreet Singh

You might be stuck. Clearing the archive bit requires accessing the data at the file system level. NDMP is a lower level protocol that is accessing at a block level.

Out of curiosity, why do you need to clear the archive bit? My experience is the archive bit is not very reliable for determining when a file should be backed up. I always recommend using the time stamp instead.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

If possible, can you share more about the time Stamp? I am ready to explore more on this too.

With Warm Regards
