cli and gui not sync?

Post cli and gui not sync?
hi all,

I am fairly new to Netbackup. I am wonder if any of you have experience
the following problems and what are the fix.

1. when I run /usr/open/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpplinclude <policy name> -l
it lists all the paths being backed up. However it is not showing up on the
gui (even after refresh) so the paths not showing up in the gui did not get
backed up. I would imagine that both the command line and the gui is reading
from the same file containing all the paths to be backed up so if added via
cli and not yet refreshed to show on the gui, when it is time for backup to
start all paths should be backed up. Is there a way for me to verify that if
I use command line to add in new paths that Netback see the new path added and
will back it up?

2. I am backing up my catalog to disk and it is taking extremely long for it to
finish. Before it is taking around 17-19 hours now it is taking 24-25 hours.
Anyone out there seeing poor performance in catalog backup to disk and if so
how to improve its performance?

Thanks for you help.

Post cli and gui not sync?
Per Veritas, bpplinclude and bpplexclude scripts are not supported and
un-reliable. Veritas is working to get these two scripts functional
either in 5.1 or the new 6.0 release coming out the end of this year.

If you want to update the include and exclude lists, you will have to do
them manually via the gui for windows clients and editing the files on
the UNIX clients.

I have not experienced the catalog backup issue. We go straight to tape
with our catalog backups.

Regards,
Arthur

I agree that the bpplexclude command won't work, but bpplinclude should.

I did a quick test and used bpplinclude to add a path to a policy.
Then verified that it was shown via bpplinclude -l. Went to the gui
(Java right on Solaris Master) and sure enough, policy wasn't listed.
Selected the policy name in the tree and hit refresh. Then went to the
"Backup Selections" and the new path was listed.

I'm running NBU 5.1_1 on Solaris 9.

I also deleted from the GUI and bpplinclude -l shows that change too.

Veritas improved buffering/blocking in a recent release, but I forget
just which one. Either number of hours seems like an ugly-long time to
me! Add to that that Veritas would like for you to have a quiet system
during catalog backup, and there's a problem!

cheers, wayne
