Post error 13 on ndmp
Anyone have any ideas on the cause for Error 13 on an
NDMP backup. The netapp logs appear to show the
ndmp/snapshot occuring normally, but the Activity
monitor doesn't show the error'd job. The bperror
command does, but it's unclear as to the cause. Using
NB 5.0GA

01/30/2005 18:47:14 nh01srs - cannot read from media
socket 8
01/30/2005 18:47:14 nh01srs nasa01 backup of client
nasa01 exited with status
13 (file read failed)

Hello Jerry

I am not sure where the Error 13 came from.

Can you tell us a little more. Is the tape drive that this backup used
attached to a netapp? To the netapp with the src data?

You might want to look at the messages log on the netapp
/vol/vol0/etc/messages

If you have ndmp debugging turned on you can look in the ndmplogs (I may
have a typo in this name) see the netapp ndmpd command to set debug levels.

There are also ndmp logs on netbackup, but I would look at the netapp logs
first.

The interesting thing is it looks like from the netapp
side the ndmp is going ok. The tape drives are
attached to the netbackup host, not the netapp.

Here is the relevant section of the netapp "backup"

about the right size for that directory. The only
indication of an error is the bperror log and job
status of 13.

Hey Jerry with the current configuration in place were you able to get a
successful backup of the Netapp at any time in the past?? If so did
anything change (software or hardware)?

Yes. I get good backups. The error 13 moves around
and is not consistent on any one stream. It seems to
happen more and fulls, and seems to have lot after
going from 4.5 FP3 to 5.0GA.
