So I just configured and started testing our new LTO2 tape drives, We
had/have some DLT and LTO1 drives...
And at first I didn't see a big increase, but then I figured it was the
layout of the files I was backing up. Meaning, I wasn't backing up a
few large files (like oradata directories), so I tested one of these
filesystems, and I am getting 40,000-45,000 KB sec speed. Needless to
say I am quite happy with that...

Does anyone out there take the time to isolate filesystems like these,
and create multiple policies for a host and a class of tape drive.

For instance, say we have host squid who is a large DB server.

NetBackup should allow you to do this in the GUI, in the NEW_STREAM
directive you should be able to specify which storage group you want to
use, although this could keep one job running for a long time if it is
waiting for a drive while another stream has finished, but a waiting job
isn't really a bad thing...

I would imagine, this is less important to someone who has a virtual
disk library, because that extends your backup window to your tapes to
nearly 24 hours.
But if you don't yet use backup to disk, it might be worth it to break
out a hosts filesystems to different drive types. Just curious if
anyone does this now?
