NBU, DataDomain and Isilon
Author Message
Post NBU, DataDomain and Isilon
Isilon seems to recommend their backup accelerator and ndmp to tape. We do not have the accelerator node, and in our environment we have a Data Domain and would like to backup directly from the Isilon to the DD670, bypassing the media server and not go to tape. I’m trying to understand my options here for this setup. The NetBackup server is a media/master, NBU 7.0.1, on RHEL5. The DD670 and NBU server are both configured with the OST plug-in. Can I take advantage of this?

I’m not sure if I can configure NDMP to bypass the media server and write straight to the DataDomain. Would this be done via NDMP or OST? I’m still waiting to get a hold of EMC on all this as well.

You need VTL license on your DataDomain to do this. If you have it, you can write backups over fc to vtl drives or you can use NDMP tape server (ddos 5.0+) and go over the lan.

Hi Nate,

How's Isilon's backup accelerator working for you? It's been a rocky
road for me so far.

We do not have the accelerator, we're looking at more basic options of using a single node or one 10Gb from two different nodes.
