New drive not showing in Device Monitor

Post New drive not showing in Device Monitor
Running Netbackup 5.1. Created new device on media server that appears in the java GUI under the Devices host section and in the Devices robot section, but it does not appear in Device Monitor.
What must be done for the device to display on Device Monitor and be usable for backups?

First,

Does the OS see it?

Check:
cat /proc/scsi/scsi

Add the drive to the configuration:
/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/tpautoconf -a

You may need to specify a robotic controller host if not on the same
server.

Justin.

Yes the device is configured on the OS. Ran tpconfig -d to ensure the config is correct on the media server, and ran vmglob -listall and grep for the drive and that appears fine too.

Then quit/start jnbSA. The media server is also added to the bp.conf of
the master, yes?

Justin.

All the settings at the low level are sound and correct. The OS and Netbackup configuration files look good, just cannot get the Device Monitor to see the device.

Hi,

What does vmglob -listall -b show on the master?

Justin.

There are two entries of interest, the correct drive entry (listed first)
device
type device name serial number host name
------------------------------------------------------------------------

drive Drive13-hcart F001C17049 chabusm3

and these entries further down (bogus entries):

drive IBMULTRIUM-TD4 F001C1702B chabusm1
drive - 1110336099 -
drive Drive02 - chabus
drive - F001C17007 -
drive - 1110352664 -

Is it just that one drive that does not show up in Device Monitor?

Justin.

Justin,
BTW Thanks for your help, and actually about missing drives, there are two NDMP devices as well as the one hcart drive that are not listed in device monitor. Also, I cannot seem to delete the drive that has no name nor host name, but only has a bogus serial number, 1110336099, so the Global Database contains false entries of ghost devices.

Hi,

The ghost devices are normal, under 5.x they cannot be deleted, I remember
having the same problem. I have not had any tape drives attached via NDMP
for a few years now, someone else will need to check in here.

Justin.
