 oracle offline backups
In this situation Oracle online is not a requirement and so the Oracle agent
licence has not been purchased.
The backup is a straight forward backup of the entire E: & D: partition
using a WINDOW-NT type policy. Oracle is shutdown prior to the backup and
still the backup of the E:\ is partially successful, not being able to
backup any of the *DBF files.
I have a call with VERITAS in the UK but no resolution has been supplied
just yet
Regards
Imran

Have you tried using the RMAN scripts provided by Veritas that comes on the
RMAN for Oracle Agent CD?? These scripts are tested and are used in the
field at various customers with no issues.
You have to set the policy as Oracle and use RMAN to do the backup to really
do a true oracle backup.
If you are doing a file system backup after you shut down the database prior
to the backup, you should be sure no other files are in the file list. You
will always get a partial backup if not using Open File Backup or using VSP.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] oracle offline backups
Hi,
We have a 4.5MP6 backup server backing up a number of clients some win2K and
some windows 2003 over gigabit LAN. One of the clients is oracle db server
hosting 9i
It is being backed up offline, and so we have written some scripts to stop
all oracle services prior backup and then backup the D:\ & E:\ every night
in FULL. Each night the backup is partially successful and fails to backup
all *.dbf files
We have tried everything including stopping VSP from running during the
backup any ideas would be appreciated
Kind Regards,
Imran
