I am told from the Windows admins there is no path > 1024 bytes in
this location, does anyone have any thoughts on this one or has anyone
seen this before?

Rather than rely on what they say I'd make them go to CMD prompt and give me the output of a DIR command.

Also it may be that the issue is hidden special characters in a file name given the oddity of the path beyond path2. There are ways to look for such things in UNIX/Linux but I don't know the equivalent for Windows/DOS.
