ERROR: At least one backup point must be set

I'm configuring rsnapshot for the first time. I wanted to place the list of things to include and exclude from the backup in files outside of the rsnapshot.conf file.

So I commented out all the lines beginning with "backup" and created an include file and an exclude file. These are referenced in rsnapshot.conf:

    include_file    /share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/Entware-ng/etc/pme-rsnapshot.incl
    exclude_file    /share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/Entware-ng/etc/pme-rsnapshot.excl

But when I run configtest I get an error: 

    # /share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/Entware-ng/bin/rsnapshot config-test
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    rsnapshot encountered an error! The program was invoked with these options:
    /share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/Entware-ng/bin/rsnapshot config-test
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ERROR: At least one backup point must be set. rsnapshot can not continue.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the settings, but why can't I just specify everything to include and exclude from the backup in include/exclude files? Why do I have to specify at least one thing to backup in the rsnapshot.conf file?

Separator is _only_ a Tab between "include_file" and "/share/..."?

backup    /home/foo/My Documents/        archive/

i.e.: backup "My Documents"  to archive

The backup line contains the root of what you are backing up as well as the root you are backing up to.  Having the includes and excludes is fine, but they don't point to where you want to the backup to be.
