Deactivating A Backup Client

Greetings!

I have a general DP question I am hoping someone can answer for me - or point me in the right direction.... I've poked around a bit but couldnt' find the answer:

I am running DP ver 6.00

I would like to "deactivate" (not delete/remove) a single backup client contained within a backup specification list. Is there a way to do this? I realize that within the Properties stack, there is a "Schedule" tab....but I don't know if the settings on the "Schedule" tab globally affect all of the clients contained in the list...or if it only affects the highlighted system.... Thanks!

If you disable schedule - you disable the whole backup policy (all backup servers, all resources included etc.)

If you delete a client - you will run into problem with backup policies which have this host selected for backup.

Why would You want to disable a client?

That is really my question... Is it possible to delete a single backup client contained within a backup specification list which includes many other backup clients without disabling the whole schedule? Eventually, I was able to answer my own question. Yes, it is possible to delete a single client within a backup specification. Actually, it is more correct to state that you can "deactivate" a single client by doing the following:

[b]Backup context --- click Backup Object Summary Tab --- make selection of desired client to delete from the schedule --- click Delete --- click Apply[/b]

This will delete/remove the client from the overall backup schedule while
still retaining the client in the Client list, thereby making it easy if you would ever again like to add the client back into the normal backup scheule

So far, I have successfully deactivated several clients and have not run into any problems (keeping fingers crossed!). Specifically, what potential problems do you see happening?

Very simple. Occasionally, a client scheduled for backup will need to be temporarily taken off line for maintenance, hardware repair, patching, etc. If you take a client offline without removing it from the backup schedule, then the next time when the backups run, you will get a "backup failed" indication in your sessions report on the system tha was taken offline.
